All About Annabel

These past few weeks have been so up and down for Annabel. She’s gone from saying “bye bye” for the 1st time ever to her Godmother when we left the party at their house on 8/14 (and she’s overall been much more talkative, especially in her reciprocal talking, hoping this is going to break thru soon!!) to having another episode that put her out of sorts for a few days again. : ( Recently the episodes have been more frequent but have not had seizure-like symptoms (specifically no eye shifting). I had thought the more recent episodes were being caused by constipation which was then triggering a migraine, causing her to get sick and be tired, not eating or drinking much for a day or two and then by day three becoming herself again. However, her most recent episode (last week) was not triggered by constipation so I’m not sure what is going on? After this episode I called neurology and discussed my thoughts with them, which they fully agreed with. So, the plan is that if she presents these symptoms again, that I will immediately take her to the ER for a shunt series to verify that everything is ok with her shunt and that she’s not intermittently failing again and as long as that’s fine then we will discuss daily treatment for migraines. With the episodes becoming more frequent, I think it’s time to treat if needed, it’s starting to impact her daily life/development and with school starting soon she can’t afford to be missing almost a week a month. It is so hard seeing her when she’s in one of the episodes, so out of it and tired. Please pray for her that everything will be ok, the little peanut has been thru so much already in her short life!

On a good note, she had her follow-up kidney ultrasound and nephrology appointment on Monday and everything looked great! Both of her kidneys grew and are size appropriate for her age/height and her left actually grew more than her right, catching up to her right so that was great news! She also didn’t show any sizes of urine flow reversal and her blood pressure was perfect! So, the plan is to do one more ultrasound in 2 years and if everything is fine (it’s expected to be) then she will be discharged from the clinic. Yeah!!
