What a beautiful day it was yesterday! I was alone with the kids for the afternoon and we didn’t have our usual therapies so I was bound and determined we were going to get outside, play in the swimming pool, get messy in the sandbox and just have a ball! And that we did! I can’t wait for more days like this this summer!
My 3rd Mother’s Day was a very nice one. We went to church with my parents and I was able to see my Godmother, my cousins, and Johnathan saw one of his Godmothers and then we went out to eat. The kids overall did well at both church and the restaurant and they all crashed on the way home. All I can say is that I love being a mom!
On Thursday, May 13th Johnathan had his speech evaluation at UofM with Shana who was his first speech therapist. She will continue to eval him on a yearly basis to be sure that he is receiving the services he needs. He had an excellent eval, with both of his receptive and expressive scores putting him at 30 months, so about 3 months behind “average” – not too shabby for a child with his level of hearing impairment! The things he needs to work on are: following more 2-step commands, combining 3-4 word sentences, pronouns, and “-ing” words. These are all things we have been working on and we developed goals in his IEP around some of these well. Both Shana and his current speech therapist (Kristen at DMC) recommended that he have the surround FM system in his preschool classroom so Brighton will be installing that for him. On the 14th I had Johnathan’s IEP and it was another successful one. I am excited for the goals we came up with for him! So 2 IEP’s done, 1 more to go.
Over the past weekend we hit some garage sales and I scored some great deals! I got a bunch of Thomas stuff, a few Jeep and Cars vehicles, some clothes, some awesome dress-up stuff and a Sit n Stand at some great prices! I love garage sale season! Johnathan and Mady had their 3rd gymnastics class on Saturday and I was able to get a few shots, only of Mady because Johnathan would NOT cooperate.
We also went to a sauerkraut supper (yummy!) Saturday night for a benefit and then to visit my friend Liss, her husband Jeff, and their new baby, Grace. She was adorable and the trio were pretty curious her.
Last Sunday my parents and I took the kids to the zoo for the 1st time. Mady caught on quick how to search for the animals and really seemed to enjoy it. It took Johnathan awhile to finally see an animal but once he did he then figured out how to scan for them too. Annabel was more in to taking it all in, the sights/sounds/smells, etc., it’s where she’s at developmentally. Mady’s favorite exhibit was the monkeys and Johnathan’s was the polar bears.
When we came home from the zoo we went to my niece’s 13th b-day party at a park near us. The kids had a good time, Mady on the swingset, Johnathan playing with the soccer ball, and Annabel exploring. She really liked playing in the sand and of course walking all over the place!
Overall the kids all had a good week at their therapies. We now have all 3 kinesio taped – Johnathan on his chest/stomach, Mady on her back, and Annabel on her chest/stomach and back of her leg. This week is filled with our usual therapies (and a few changed around, just to keep me on my toes of who needs to be where and when!), Annabel’s IEP on Tuesday, Johnathan will get his new hearing aids on Thursday, and then we will see B.J.’s family for Memorial Day weekend. Should be a fun week!
