What a busy couple of weeks we’ve had, I need to get updates posted before any more new things happen! Wednesday the 11th the girls were casted for their orthotics. Mady HATED it, Annabel did great! The molds looked good and the orthotics will be delivered on April 9, we will figure out new shoe purchases once we receive them to see if we need to get any “special” shoes.
That same night Johnathan started wheezing so we started him on albuterol and Thursday he was getting worse and worse as the day went on, wheezing quite bad when he exerted any energy and at this age he doesn’t realize that if he’d rest he’d feel better so of course I was very worried. So I ended up taking him to the pediatricians and he sat’d 100%! I guess that shows that his lungs have healed and have grown a lot over the last six months so he can handle it better. The doctor did see that when he exerted energy he got significantly worse so she wrote a script for steroids in case we needed them but thankfully we didn’t. He’s still on albuterol as needed but he’s doing okay. The weird part is that he never had any cold symptoms at all, still not sure what he was fighting? The good news from the doctor appointment is that Johnathan is now just over 20lbs!!
Friday my parents and I took the trio to Hartland Pool for their PT session, meeting
our therapist there. It was an hour of pool time and all three loved it!! Our PT was very impressed with how well Annabel did, kicking both legs and reaching BOTH hands up to play with the ball! Friday night I was working with Annabel and I had her sitting on her own for awhile and she was initiating
rolling from back to tummy and back again quite a few times! She has always been able to go from back to tummy but doesn’t initiate it a whole lot, it was so good to see her doing this! I can see that Annabel might be a person who goes swimming everyday, it just helps her muscles so much! Seeing how much it helps her has prompted us to get our hot tub fixed and we are going to start using it as a warm pool for the kids, I’m so excited! Overall Annabel has been doing some great things lately – sitting more on her own, rolling and enjoying tummy time, and we have caught her quite a few times using her left hand for things, she is definitely a lot more aware of it!
Last Sunday we took the kids outside in the afternoon, Mady and Johnathan had a ball walking and crawling around, playing on the slide, and checking out the grass and leaves. And for us it was fun to get out and talk to our neighbors and be
somewhat “normal” again! We are seeing that with Annabel being delayed from the others, these are the times that it’s tricky to find what we can do to help her interact but not hold the others back. Will take some learning from all of us!This past week we took all three to Opthamology on Thursday and the script didn’t change for any of them which was great news! Mady’s astigmatism has slightly shifted but no real change. Annabel is still variable with her eyes crossing, mostly straight when her glasses are on so no surgery is required.
On Friday we took Annabel to LESA to see the set-up for the obstacle course/play area in the basement. We tried her out in the platform swing which is the first piece of equipment we are going to buy and she loved it! She sat on her own very well and even started saying “mmm” for more and sometimes even signed it! We are now in the works of getting the basement in order to do a rough finish before we order the equipment and get everything set-up. Saturday I had my multiples club mom-to-mom sale and I have to say I am glad it is over! I have been putting most of my time and energy getting everything ready in the past few weeks and am ready to shift gears. It was a huge success though so it was definitely worth it!
This week Annabel has her weekly aqua therapy on Tuesday – I am so glad we got her in to this, she loves it and since starting she has improved so much in her torso strength and movements, most days she’s now initiating rolling 20-30 times a day and has been sitting on her own for a minute or so at a time! Thursday we take Johnathan to the Geneticist for the first time so we will see what they have to say about the potential reason for his hearing loss and if any further bloodwork or other testing is recommended.
Overall it’s been a crazy few weeks lately. The trio are definitely teething, working on some molars and I think a touch of the terrible 2’s is kicking in, especially with Mady. She is constantly testing us, being very dramatic, and is starting to be pickier with eating (which is SO frustrating to parents of micro-preemies, especially when the doctors are still hounding you for them to gain weight!). And the worst part is that they’re teaching each other things so now when Annabel rocks because of her sensory issues, the others think they can too or when Mady decides to just throw her sippy or food on the floor, the others pick up on that! Agghhh!!! As tough as some days can be I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love those kiddos so much and am so thankful for everyday we have with them!
