Is January over yet? So I brought Annabel home Friday night and already, what a big difference Friday and Saturday in how she was acting - so happy with big smiles and really in to playing again! Saturday Johnathan and Mady both started having a tougher time breathing so they're in Albuterol every Q3, with Johnathan getting an extra dose of Flovent at lunch - it appears that has helped them thru it and they are doing better, thank goodness! I was quite worried we were going to be making another ER trip with one or both of them! Then Saturday afternoon I started not feeling well and in the middle of the night started in with flu symptoms. Of course, the instant I got sick all I could think of was Annabel and how her and I were together the whole time this week. As I feared, she started vomitting early this morning but hasn't since 5:00 a.m and is keeping some pedialyte down so hopefully her's is a much shorter duration than mine (I am still having symptoms although I was finally able to rest well this morning and feel a little better). Of course, in the midst of all of this B.J. left on his work trip to St. Louis for a week yesterday (which I had this gut feeling that he shouldn't go but didn't know why - now I do). Thank goodness for my parents, they came up early yesterday to help with everything and have been a godsend, I don't know how I would have done it without them. So far it has just been Annabel and I sick, please pray the others don't get it too!
I did call after hours neurosurg this morning but I now have a call in to the NP we normally see in clinic because the after hours doctor wanted me to bring her in this morning for another CT to make sure the shunt is okay and to make sure she's hydrated but at the time I felt so sick still I wasn't sure how I'd get her there. Now I feel better and could go if needed but to me I honestly think it's the flu and not the shunt as she's happy, the vomitting has stopped, she's drinking fluids, and no temp, the only thing I worry about is her incision in her tummy from the surgery, she has let out a few cries of discomfort, most likely from that. So I'm going to run everything by the NP and go from there, maybe I could just take her to the clinic up here if they only need an xray. I figure while I have them on the phone I will also ask about the spinal fluid culture.
Now for some good news in the last few days. B.J. did take Johnathan to his audiology appointment on Friday (Annabel was originally supposed to go too) and his hearing test went really well, with no changes! He did have a little fluid on his ears so he had a harder time at the low and high frequencies so she adjusted his hearing aids to compensate. B.J. said she didn't mention tubes but I know in the past they've talked of this he keeps having some fluid so we'll see. This morning was supposed to be Mady and Johnathan's synagis shots but since a) I still wasn't feeling great to take them and b) they could still get the flu and I don't need their immune systems any lower, I rescheduled them for next Thursday which will line-up with Annabel and keep them on the same schedule, much easier for me!
