We're Back!

What a busy, sad, emotionally draining week it has been. I will try to update on all of it but may miss a few things (it was a whirlwind). To start a few Saturdays ago (Oct. 10) Annabel was coming down with a cold and throughout the day got worse and worse, coughing and by the end of the day refusing to eat or drink. She then proceeded to vomit up some phlegm at night, given that she wasn’t running a temp and was still hydrated we didn’t take her in, decided to watch and see how she would be on Sunday. Sunday she was much better, back to eating and drinking and playing normally. That weekend was also when Grandma Years went in to the hospital.

Throughout the week Annabel appeared to be fine but the on Wednesday night (the night Grandma passed) she sat up in bed and vomited a few times again. When she does this it’s like a pot boiling over, just continuously coming out and it doesn’t seem to faze her and she isn’t gagging herself, coughing hard, nothing! I decided that I’d take her in to the pediatricians before leaving for NY Thursday for the funeral to be safe. Respiratory-wise she was in perfect shape (sating 100%) other than a slight cold, the doctor couldn’t believe how happy she was given that the night before she had been puking like that. When she first came in her bp was high 120/xx so the doctor decided to have her re-tested before leaving (wondering if it could indicate something with the shunt) and it was then 92/xx, completely normal! So we decided that if she did it again to take her to the ER and get a shunt work-up to be safe. So of course, Thursday night at about 8:15 at the 2nd travel center in OH Annabel does it again, after being perfectly normal all day! So I called after hours neuro (took 40 minutes to finally hear back from them) and after a lengthy discussion decided it is more than likely not the shunt and that if it continued thru the weekend to then bring her in when we got back to run a series of tests to check many things because obviously something wasn’t right. Thankfully Annabel did not do it again all weekend! So a very odd situation this past week. We have a few thoughts of what may have caused it (drinking too fast out of straw cup or brushing) but will never be 100% sure.

I was so proud of the trio this past weekend; they were such good munchkins at the funeral home and funeral! They certainly helped a stressful/sad situation to be a lot easier than it could have been! Everyone was very impressed with how much they’ve grown and developed in the last few months! Although it was a sad reason for visiting it was so good to see all our family.
The kids had a great time spending time with their cousins, Johnathan especially loved sharing fishies with Austin (Austin wasn't as sure)! Johnathan was Grandpa Buckley’s little buddy this weekend, it was so cute seeing him take to him so much. The one day the girls were napping and Johnathan wasn’t so he got to go out on the tractor with Grandpa and play in the leaves for the first time. He had a ball!

The past few weeks have been very exciting for the kids developmentally! Johnathan’s speech is soaring, saying/waving hi and bye and has a huge knowledge of single words/sounds and is even able to communicate without his hearing aids now – definitely makes thing s easier! He’s started to do somersaults on his own too. Although he can play rough (working on this) he is so caring to his sisters, giving them kisses, feeding Annabel, bringing her toys, coming to her concerned when she’s upset, etc.

Madelyn is now jumping and dancing a lot and is starting to sing nursery songs! She is putting many words together. She is mommy’s little helper, imitating vacuuming and cleaning, putting things away and retrieving things when I ask, this stage is nice! She is a little spitfire though, sometimes too smart for her own good. She will forever test us with every little thing, of that I am certain. She is our drama queen, if she gets in trouble she is crushed and you know it. She is great with bringing toys to Annabel but is a bit more hesitant of playing with her, Johnathan seems to interact with her more but overall they’re all interacting together more often which is so great to see and so good for all of them!

Annabel’s speech has also been improving, she is appropriately saying “ma, ma, ma and da, da, da” when she sees us and when we pick her up she says “hiiiii” and reaches up! We are so thankful that her speech is starting to emerge and pray that it continues to do so! She has also started holding her own sippy cup at times, I think she’s in a stage where she’s wanting to be more independent which will help her immensely! In aqua therapy the other day her therapist hadn’t seen her in 2 weeks and she couldn’t believe how well she’s doing balancing all her weight on her left foot and doing this on her own, she said that she’s certainly turning another corner and that her not being hesitant of the weight-bearing is huge towards her being able to walk! Her muscles have not been tight and we have been able to do so much positioning with her, I truly think she is one who with repetitive movements/positioning she will understand what is appropriate and do so many wonderful things!

Lately the kids have been getting some yummy treats, mostly do to the fact that we need to provide calories anyway we can. A few things they've really started liking are keebler striped cookies, m&m's and vanilla ice cream. Makes it hard on us because we always want some when they eat it too!
