Annabel saw Miss Ida (the Orthoptist) today and Miss Ida is very happy with how mild her turning in is but did notice that Annabel is favoring her right eye (which makes sense because it's left-side affected by CP) so we are starting patching to help strengthen her left eye. Miss Ida came up with a newer method for patching using roughed contact paper to cover the glasses lens so a) you hardly notice it look at her, b) it won't annoy her, and c) her siblings won't be curious and pull a bright, colorful patch off of her! Good thinking Miss Ida!! So she will wear the patch on her lens for 2 hours a day for 6 weeks and then 1 hour a day until we see Dr. Archer (about another 6 weeks). Miss Ida said that her turning is so mild that it alone will not cause her to need surgery but if her vision starts worsening (so far it hasn't) then that would require surgery. So let's pray her vision does not get any worse.
This afternoon the trio, my parents, dogs, and I went on a walk and Annabel got to try out the new tricycle Grandma and Grandpa Guenther got her. I had found it on-line and it is perfect for a child with mild special needs because as the child progresses it eventually becomes a regular tricycle. It is so great seeing her in a "big kid" toy
like that and best of all she loves it! What we need to work on is her holding on to the handle bars, just like how she will hold on to the harness during hippotherapy.
